Interesting reading though.

I grew up in Ithaca and returned after attending school to uh, live with my parents.arthurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13407093986689029361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13734864.post-11649669848814644812007-08-20T22:14:00.000-04:002007-08-20T22:14:00.000-04:00I used to agree with you. But given things I've been hearing and reading, I've grown more cautious. Think of this as a least upper bound of credibility.

Incidentally, I see from your blogger profile you're from Ithaca. So am I. Wikipedia isn't really like somebody just telling you something, except in the very broad sense that the information there is fallible (but so is pretty much everything else, at least in theory).

The material is writing rather than speech. The writing (in process if not in tone) is formal, at least compared to a typical email or blog post. Articles are edited. Most of them there are written by individuals with an unusual degree of knowledge regarding their chosen topic(s).

Of course, the efficacy and reliability of all of this is debatable. Still, I think its fair to say that Wikipedia is better in at least some regards than just asking someone of the top of their head. Dates are good example, being something that most people simply aren't very good at remembering.arthurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13407093986689029361noreply@blogger.com
